Primary Position Purpose:

The Communications Specialist is primarily responsible for all social media strategy, social media content management, social media platform growth, and interaction with the social media public. The Specialist is a strong writer with the ability to research a topic and communicate it effectively via writing. This position oversees all internal company media, ensuring content is accurate and timely. The Specialist is a key player, coordinating projects from conception to completion within the department and with the cross-functional team in the company, and following up with project results post-completion. Attention to detail and accuracy is extremely important.

Position Functions:

  • Resident Social Media Expert.
    • Strategize, collaborate with team to write high-engagement social media content that reflects the company’s tone of voice, ensuring accuracy with subject matter experts and supervisors, and distribute content for all available platforms: Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn.
    • Continuously develop strategies (with teams’ input) to build audience across all social media platforms.
    • Research trends and best practices for all applicable social media outlets. Follow competitors and other industry feeds to know what topics are being discussed and promoted.
    • Track reach and engagement on a regular basis. Provide a bi-annual report on competitor and industry trends and recommend how to utilize findings in planning.
  • Work in a collaborative environment to develop content of any assigned communications projects. Investigate, write competently and accurately, get approvals from appropriate subject matter experts and supervisors, and distribute final communication as necessary across applicable communication mediums. Communication mediums include but are not limited to social media, employee intranet, in-cab messaging, mobile app, print mediums developed by graphics team, video scripts, corporate website, emails, and newsletters.
  • Ambassador and steward for all internal media, including employee intranet, in-cab messaging, mobile app newsletter, driver intranet, terminal, and office digital screens. Ensure that all visible messaging is accurate and timely.
  • Report on all communication means with tangible data on a monthly basis (social media, employee intranet, etc.).
  • Ensure accuracy of all communications and get answers to questions so that projects continue moving. Follow up at the conclusion of the project to determine results.
  • Contribute to the execution of corporate events, including but not limited to professional driver recognition events and Driver Appreciation Week.
  • Simultaneously manage multiple projects with short deadlines.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with cross-functional teams.
  • Complete all tasks as assigned and within expected deadlines.
  • Perform other related duties and assignments as required.

What We’re Looking For:

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, or related field preferred

Experience

  • 2-4 years relevant experience
  • Professional social media management required with exceptional skill at the nuances of social media writing, including the use of hashtags, emojis and capitalizing on viral trends
  • Experience in communications with a publicly traded company a plus

Skills & Abilities

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Familiarity with Hootsuite
  • Knowledge of communications and media, including social media
  • Ability to actively listen and possess strong social perceptiveness
